Prelude - Amazing Grace, arr. B. Wayne Bisbee, Westminster Bells

Call to Worship - Iona Abbey Worship Book
Thanks be to you, O God, that we have risen this day,
TO THE RISING OF THIS LIFE ITSELF.
Be the purpose of God between us and each purpose,
THE HAND OF GOD BETWEEN US AND EACH HAND,
The pain of Christ between us and each pain,
THE LOVE OF CHRIST BETWEEN US AND EACH LOVE.
O God, who brought us to the bright light of this new day
BRING US TO THE GUIDING LIGHT OF ETERNITY.

+ Hymn 37 - Let All Things Now Living

+ Call to Confession

+ A Prayer of Confession - Iona Abbey Worship Book
Eternal God, maker of the skies above, lowly Christ, born amidst the growing earth, Spirit of life, wind over the flowing waters, in earth, sea and sky, you are there. O hidden mystery, sun behind all suns, soul behind all souls, in everything we touch, in everyone we meet, your presence is around us, and we give you thanks. But when we have not touched but trampled you in creation, when we have not met but missed you in one another, when we have not received but rejected you in the poor, forgive us, and hear now our plea for mercy. Hear now our silent prayers of confession…
• Assurance of Pardon
• Response to Forgiveness: Hymn 587, Alleluia! (sing once)

Passing of the Peace

Children’s Message

Prayer for Openness
God, by your Holy Spirit, help us experience your radical, surprising love. Come to us and help us hear what you would have us hear. Amen.

Scripture Reading - Acts 10:44-48
While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days.

This is the written testimony to the Word of the Lord.  Thanks be to God

Offering
•  Invitation
• Offertory - Praise We Sing to Thee, Haydn, arr. Luvaas, Chancel Choir

Scripture Reading - 1 John 3:16-24
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world, our faith. Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth.

Sermon - “The Wellspring” by Rev Matt Falco

*Affirmation of Faith - A portion of the PC(USA) Confession of 1967
…Already God’s reign is present as a ferment in the world, stirring hope in humanity and preparing the world to receive its ultimate judgment and redemption. With an urgency born of this hope, the church applies itself to present tasks and strives for a better world. It does not identify limited progress with the kingdom of God on earth, nor does it despair in the face of disappointment and defeat. In steadfast hope, the church looks beyond all partial achievement to the final triumph of God.

+ HYMN 490 - Wash, O God, Your Sons and Daughters

• Words of Institution

• The Communion of the People
The congregation is invited to come forward to tear off a piece of bread and dip it in the cup. There is gluten-free bread on the table. If you would prefer to receive Communion in your pew, an elder or deacon will serve you. After consuming the bread and the cup and returning to your seat, turn your mind to what God is inviting you to consider in this moment of stillness.

• Music during communion - To Thee, O Lord, Do I Lift Up my Soul, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Chancel Choir

• Prayer after Communion
Thanks be to you, Jesus Christ, for welcoming all to share your feast. Send your Holy Spirit upon your Church, that in all her words and works she may serve you better and love you more. Encircle with your care the world and all the people; relieve each one in suffering, each one in grief, wounded or weeping, and lead them with us to the house of your peace, this day and forever. Amen.
