Burnamwood All-Ages Retreat
November 1-3
Get away for a weekend to enjoy the beauty of Burnamwood and good fellowship with your Maxwell Street friends! This year's theme for our retreat is “Working with Darkness.” The first weekend of November marks the end of Daylight Savings time and the beginning of longer nights of the winter season. Darkness has traditionally been thought of as theological shorthand for evil. Even if this metaphor doesn’t resonate with us, the long dark winter can weigh heavy on our spirits. Theologians like Barbara Brown Taylor, have in recent years begun to help us reclaim the gift of darkness. During our retreat, we’ll consider the hidden treasures of the darkness that the Lord offers us.
“I will give you the treasures of darkness and riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the Lord, the God of Israel, who call you by your name.”
- Isaiah 45.3
